Supporting the economic victims of COVID-19

Today the government is announcing a new scheme to support people who have lost their job because of coronavirus, providing them with fresh opportunities and ensuring nobody is left without hope as we build back better.

  • The government's unprecedented support of over £200 billion has protected millions of livelihoods and businesses since the start of the pandemic, from Bounce Back Loans to increases in Universal Credit, but we’ve always been clear that we cannot save every job.

  • Conservatives know the damaging effects of being out of work, so we will launch JETS – Job Entry Targeted Support – to support those left jobless because of coronavirus. Backed by £238 million, JETS will target those out of work for three months with tailored support, such as CV and interview coaching, to quickly get back into employment and could help a quarter of a million people.

  • This is in addition to our plans to provide jobs for young people through the Kickstart scheme, encourage businesses to take on trainees and apprentices, double the number of work coaches to help people find work and ensure people can always retrain through our Lifetime Skills Guarantee.

  • Through schemes like JETS, part of our £30 billion Plan for Jobs, we will continue to protect, create and support people into jobs, to ensure no one is left without hope as we build back better.

They are not helping anyone here. On Sunday morning I was in close proximity to someone who had no symptoms but went on to test +ve on Monday afternoon. As a result I have to isolate for 2 weeks, EVEN IF I TEST NEGATIVE. The wife who lives here does not have to isolate though.
