A ten-year strategy to cut cancer
Today is World Cancer Day and the UK government is launching a 10-year national war on cancer and seeking a range of views to help Britain lead the world in cancer care.
- Huge strides in cancer care have been made in recent years but cancer remains the biggest cause of death from disease in the UK, with the Covid-19 pandemic undoubtedly impacting diagnoses.
- That is why health secretary Sajid Javid has today launched an ambitious 10-Year Cancer Plan to make our cancer care system the best in Europe, to tackle the Covid-19 backlogs, boost our cancer workforce and focus on innovative treatment and early diagnosis – looking at all stages of cancer care.
- We must learn the lessons from the pandemic and apply them to improving cancer services for patients over the next decade so fewer people lose a loved one to this disease.
