Yesterday, the Prime Minister spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin, seeking a diplomatic response to Russian hostility on the Ukrainian border.

  • With over 100,000 troops, tanks, artillery and missiles near Ukraine’s border, this campaign of aggression is undermining the foundations of European security.
  • That is why the Prime Minister spoke to President Putin yesterday, expressing his deep concern about Russia’s current hostile activity, and stressing that any further Russian incursion into Ukrainian territory would be a tragic miscalculation. The Prime Minister underscored that under NATO’s open door policy, all European democracies have a right to aspire to NATO membership, and the leaders agreed that aggravation was in no one’s interest.
