Investing in five new Frigates
The government has today announced the construction in British yards of the next next phase of a £4.2 billion investment in the Royal Nav's new ships, five new frigates, - bolstering Britain’s defences while supporting thousands of jobs.
- Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine has shown the fragility of peace in Europe and across the world, and we must ensure our military is prepared to respond to whatever threats may arise.
- That is why today the government has awarded a £4.2 billion programme to BAE Systems build five new warships - which will provide the Royal Navy with five additional Type 26 anti-submarine frigates and support 4,000 jobs across the UK.
- These ships will improve the safety and security of Britain, while ensuring that we remain at the forefront of military capabilities.
