More ships to support the navy
The government has announced that a UK-led team will be building three new Royal Navy support ships, creating 2,000 new jobs in the UK as we invest to keep our nation safe.
- Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine has shown the fragility of peace in Europe and across the world, and we must ensure our military is prepared to respond to whatever threats may arise.
- That is why the government has selected UK-led Team Resolute as the Preferred Bidder to deliver new naval support ships – the second longest UK military vessels behind our two aircraft carriers – which means all three ships will be assembled in Belfast and Appledore.
- As well as keeping us safe, this decision will create 2,000 UK jobs and see us invest £77 million into British shipyards so we have shipbuilding capabilities fit for the 21st century.
