- Following recommendations made by Dame Judith Hackitt in her review, the government has launched a consultation on establishing a new regulator, which will have the power to enforce stricter rules on safety standards.
- Also proposed is a new system of ‘dutyholders’ – people who will have responsibility for keeping residents safe and make sure that building regulations are followed.
- Conservatives are determined to give residents in high-rise buildings a stronger voice to ensure their concerns are never ignored. That’s why we are proposing to give them better information about their buildings, as well as clear and quick routes of escalation for their concerns if things do go wrong.
