£3 billion for the NHS

Today the Prime Minister will announce a £3 billion package of extra winter funding for our NHS, ensuring it has everything it needs to keep the public safe through the vital months ahead.
  • Because of the hard work and sacrifices of the British people, we have managed to supress the coronavirus and been able to ease restrictions in a cautious, phased way – however we must not be complacent about the potential risks ahead.

  • That is why alongside the extensive measures that are already in place, we are today announcing an immediate £3 billion funding boost for our NHS to provide additional capacity for coronavirus patients should it be needed, as well as allowing the NHS to carry out its routine treatments and procedures.

  • In addition, at a Press Conference later today, the Prime Minister will publish an additional chapter to the Government's COVID-19 recovery strategy ‘road map’ as well as plans to increase testing capacity to half a million antigen tests a day by the end of October to bolster the NHS Test and Trace programme.

  • These measures will be part of a broad package of measures to protect against both a possible second wave, ease winter pressures and keep the public safe.
