Hong Kong

Yesterday, Britain reaffirmed our commitment to provide a path to citizenship for British Nationals (Overseas) - protecting their freedoms and honouring our pledge to stand up for the people of Hong Kong.

  • Despite our pleas China has breached its international obligations - threatening the rights and freedoms of the people of Hong Kong.

  • The government has therefore announced an unprecedented extension of visa rights for those with British Nationals (Overseas) status in Hong Kong. This new bespoke immigration route will allow them to come to the UK with 5 years limited leave to remain, with the ability to live and work in the UK.

  • We want a positive relationship with China, but we cannot and will not duck our historic responsibilities to Hong Kong or its people.
