European co-operation to deal with the challenge of illegal migration
Last week the Home Secretary met with European interior ministers to discuss solutions to thye challenge of illegal immigration – helping to reduce the number of small boat crossings while holding those responsible to account.
- Illegal immigration is a global issue, and we must work with our European partners if we want to reduce the number of people attempting to cross the Channel.
- That is why last Thursday the ‘Calais Group’ of European interior ministers met for discussions on tackling illegal immigration, where they discussed solutions to reduce the flow of illegal migration and agreed to support working arrangements between crime agencies such as the NCA and Interpol.
- These discussions will help to bring solutions that will benefit all our countries and to ensure the criminals who profit in human misery are targeted and brought swiftly to justice.
