The future of women's football

This week the government published a major review of the future of women’s football, building on the legacy of the Lionesses’ historic victory in the Euro 2022.

  • The Lionesses’ amazing performance in the Euro's 2022 was an inspiration to women and girls in sport across the UK and represents a fantastic opportunity to build on that legacy for the future.
  • That is why we have published a major review of women’s football, led by former Lioness Karen Carney MBE, that recommends raising minimum standards across the game and calling for the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship to become fully professional environments.
  • The future of women’s sport is brighter than ever and we will continue to back women and girls all the way as they develop their sporting careers, giving them greater opportunities for the future.
