DC: "We must stand together against terrorism"
There has been a ghastly terrorist multiple attack in Brussels, apparently similar in some ways to the 7 July London suicide bombings.
David Cameron has said that
"These are appalling and savage terrorist attacks and I've just spoken to the prime minister of Belgium to give our sympathies and our condolences to the Belgian people. We absolutely stand with them at this very difficult time. These were attacks in Belgium but they could just as well be attacks in Britain or in France or Germany, or elsewhere in Europe and we need to stand together against these appalling terrorists and make sure they can never win"
According to Reuters, DA'ESH has claimed responsibility for the Brussels attacks.
It will take some time for full details to emerge - at the time of writing we do not know the full casualty list (though it is likely that at least 31 people were killed and a much larger number injured.)
This should not need saying, but apparently does. It is way too early to be appropriate, if it ever will be, for anyone to use these attacks to make a political points. Neither side in Britain's EU referendum debate should do so, as Mike Smithson points out at Political Betting here, and nor should any candidate in the US Presidential election.
let us all just express solidarity with Belgium and the victims of this vile attack
