Why MPs should vote to renew the Trident deterrent on 18th July

The cartoonist Cummings first published this cartoon in 1983.

Cummings was right - the world was dangerous then and it is dangerous now. The naïve optimists of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament may have imagined that unilateral disarmament by the West was the best way to stop a war: I remain convinced that it would have made one far more likely.

The only thing which has changed since this cartoon was published is that the nuclear deterrent has now stopped World War III from breaking out, not for 38 years, but for more than seventy.
