Truth and fiction
I heard a beautiful story this morning which illustrated how doing the right thing can have enormous positive consequences.
I had intended to put it on this blog, but thought I had better check it first.
Much to my disappointment it turned out that the entire tale was a myth invented in about 1946 by an over-imaginative journalist and that almost every detail of the story had either been disproved or denied. Unfortunately when a story is so beautiful that people want it to be true, it is very easy for it to spread as people fail to check it.
As the saying goes,
- or because it is a good story either.
In fact, the more you want to believe something, the more carefully you should probably check it.
