FIVE DAYS TO GO

Just five days to go and polls will be open in the General Election.

Whatever else you may say about it, this year's election offers the clearest choice since at least 1983.

The polls may or may not be right - indeed some pollsters are bound to be "wrong" yet again, so we cannot take anything for granted.

For those of us involved in the campaign we have just five days to persuade as many people as possible to turn out and vote in an election which might make a huge difference to our country.

For those who are not, let me make one appeal to you at this point - whatever your views, please USE YOUR VOTE.

People have died for you to have that right. There is an enormous difference between the quality of life in countries where elections give the public a genuine choice and those where they don't. And election choices do not come much more clear and stark than the choice between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn this Thursday.

I can understand why a lot of people wont vote this time. To paraphrase Theresa May "No prime minister is better than a bad prime minister"

I hear what you say, but there isn't an option on the ballot paper for "no prime minister."

I recall that the "No candidate deserves my vote" party stood in St Albans a few years ago in a few council seats - indeed they actually stood against a close friend of mine, who was my best man and is my son's Godfather, in the ward for which I was at the time the other councillor.

There is a case for having a "re-open nominations" box in council and parliamentary elections and having a fresh election if it gets most votes.

But we don't have that system. So either Theresa May or Jeremy Corbyn will be Prime Minister on 9th June.
