A new future for Channel 4
Yesterday the Culture Secretary set out plans to privatise Channel 4, giving the broadcaster the tools and freedom to flourish as we level up the creative sector.
- Channel 4 is an important part of the network of news and broadcasting in Britain, but government ownership is holding it back from competing against streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon.
- That is why the culture secretary has announced a change of ownership for Channel 4, with privatisation giving the broadcaster the tools and freedom to flourish and thrive as a public service broadcaster. The proceeds of the sale will be reinvested into the creative sector, in independent production and creative skills, delivering a creative dividend for all.
- This will make sure Channel 4 can continue to play a vital role in the British life long into the future as we level up the creative sector.
