Connecting Britain

In the past week it has been announced that more than 5,000 public buildings have been plugged into high-speed broadband, levelling up public services across the UK.

  • Fast and reliable broadband is vital to households, businesses and the public services we rely on every day.
  • That is why the Conservative government has connected more than 5,000 public buildings to high-speed broadband, with 1,200 schools, 340 libraries and 50 hospitals among those connected. Additionally, the Government is calling on companies to submit bids to connect 190,000 hard-to-reach premises in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cornwall as part of our £5 billion Project Gigabit.
  • Project Gigabit will deliver a £60 billion boost to productivity and our drive to connect public buildings is making sure people can access better quality public services.

(In the interest of full transparency I should declare that I am employed as a manager in Openreach part of the BT group of companies. The information in this post comes entirely from Conservative party and government sources and does not necessarily represent the views of Openreach or BT.)
