Jubilee Celebrations

I have been trying to get to as many community Jubilee Celebration events as I can this week, especially those in the area which I still represent on the County Council as we enter the last ten months of the council's existence.

On Wednesday I attended the walk from St Bees station to the two new benches which have been put in place in honour of Her Majesty's platinum jubilee. Here is a picture of one of them.

This afternoon I went to the excellent party in Bigrigg Village hall. My congratulations to everyone involved in putting on that wonderful event, particularly the organisers, the people who ran the stalls and the bar, and  "Committed 2 Rock" Whitehaven for the singing.

It was so wonderful to see a room full of happy people enjoying themselves. Part of that was undoubtedly an expression of thanks and gratitude to Her Majesty the Queen, but part of what made today so special was for people to be able to come together as a community and celebrate, something we have simply not been able to during the last two difficult years.
