The Messenger Review of leadership in health and social care
Today, the Health Secretary welcomed the Messenger Review of leadership in health and adult social care, commencing the biggest shake-up in health and social care leadership in a generation.
- The Conservative government is investing a record amount into health and care services over the next three years to tackle the Covid backlog. Strengthening leadership and reforming management is vital in ensuring that every pound is well spent.
- To support this the government commissioned a review from General Sir Gordon Messenger and Dame Linda Pollard, published today. The findings of the review include examples of great leadership but also poor leadership that has been tolerated for far too long. The Health Secretary has welcomed the review and is accepting all seven of their transformative recommendations.
- Leadership can be the difference between life and death in health and social care so we are urgently taking these recommendations forward, to ensure we have the leadership patients and staff deserve, right across the country.
