Defending Britain's skies
This week the government allocated £656 million to continue the development of the next generation of fighter jets, helping us deliver a world-leading fighter jet by 2035 and creating new high-skilled tech jobs that will help to grow the economy.
- Ground-breaking science, research and engineering here in the UK can deliver world-leading sovereign defence capabilities that will protect our skies for decades to come.
- That is why the government has allocated more than £650 million as part of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) to support British firms such as Rolls-Royce develop the next generation of fighter jet which will create thousands of jobs across the country as we expand the Programme with GCAP partners Japan and Italy.
- The project will help to protect our skies, increase our defence sovereignty and create high-skilled jobs as we grow our economy.
