Christopher Whiteside MBE is Conservative County Councillor for the Egremont North and St Bees Division of Cumbria County Council. The division includes St Bees, Bigrigg, Wood End, Moor Row, part of the Mirehouse area of Whitehaven, and surrounding countryside.
He is also Chairman of the North-West region of the voluntary wing of the Conservative party.
Chris lives and works in Copeland with his wife and family.
Evidence is showing the Covid-19 variant first identified in India is spreading fastest in Bedford, Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Hounslow, Kirklees, Leicester and North Tyneside.
As such, the government published guidance on Friday 14 May which states that people living in these areas should meet outside rather than inside where possible, keep two metres apart from people you do not live with, and everyone should avoid travelling in and out of affected areas unless it is essential, for example for work or education.
