Driving up standards in schools and colleges

Yesterday it was announced that universities will help drive up standards in local schools and colleges, as we improve students outcomes and level up the country.

  • The Conservative government is determined to level up the nation and ensure that children’s opportunities are not constrained by the areas in which they live.
  • So universities will now be invited to help drive up standards in local schools and colleges, while reducing dropout rates at university and improving progression into high paid, high skilled jobs. The government has also announced £8 million to remove barriers to post-graduate research for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students.
  • This will help to reduce the skills gap in disadvantaged areas – a key part of levelling up and improving people’s opportunities across the country.
