Action at last on the infected blood scandal
Today the government announced that thousands of people affected by the infected blood scandal will each receive an interim compensation payment of £100,000, ensuring those impacted get the compensation they deserve.
- Following the publication of Sir Brian Langstaff’s interim report as part of the Contaminated Blood Inquiry, the Government has accepted the recommendation for those affected to receive compensation.
- So the government has announced that people impacted by the contaminated blood scandal will receive tax-free interim payments of £100,000 ensuring thousands of those affected are getting the compensation they need as soon as possible without having to wait for the ongoing inquiry’s final report.
- I am pleased that four decades after this problem began in 1975 we finally have a government commitment and action to stand by all those impacted by this horrific tragedy and it has been promised that these interim payments will start the compensation process, getting the money to those people as quickly as possible.
