Consulting on a Social Housing rent cap

Today, sees the launch of a consultation on a social housing rent cap, as the government seeks ways to protect vulnerable families from global inflationary pressures.

  • As we tackle global inflationary pressures, government support must be made available to those most in need and to the most vulnerable, especially from rising bills.
  • So the government is launching a consultation on a proposed rent cap for the coming financial year, preventing rents for council and housing association homes from rising significantly to save tenants an average £300 per year alongside our £37 billion support package.
  • Putting a cap on rent increases for social tenants will provide security and stability to the most vulnerable families in these exceptional times.
