Recruiting more police officers
Today, the Prime Minister is joining new police officer recruits working on the frontline, supporting their fight against crime as we build back safer.
- Recruiting more police and making our streets safer was a key Conservative manifesto pledge at the last election and is central to our mission to level up this country. Everyone should have the security that comes from having a safe street and safe home, wherever they live.
- That is why the Prime Minister is joining new police officers working on the frontline today and will speak to officers from one of the 20 Violence Reduction Units set up by this Government and backed by £170 million of funding, seeing first-hand the work they are doing to crack down on violent crime.
- The government is determined to crack down on the vile gangs who are ruining people's lives, and put dangerous offenders behind bars for longer. At the heart of these efforts are the 13,790 extra police officers hired across England and Wales providing the firepower to keep our communities safe.
