Helping disabled people with the cost of living
This week the government announced that around 6 million disabled people will receive a one-off £150 Cost of Living payment from 20 September, ensuring the most vulnerable have the support they need as we help people manage cost of living pressures.
- Disabled people often face higher disability-related costs from care and mobility needs, so as we tackle global inflationary pressure we must tailor our support to protect those most in need.
- That is why the government announced yesterday that, from 20 September, those being paid a qualifying disability benefit will automatically receive a one-off cost of living payment of £150 – as part of £1,200 of support for low-income benefit claimants.
- These payments will ensure the most vulnerable in our society have the support they need to manage the cost of living - from fuel and transport to prescription costs.
