As nominations close this afternoon ...

Election nominations close in just under an hour's time.

My own nomination for mayor of Copeland was submitted and accepted before Easter but I have been dashing around like the proverbial fly trying to make sure friends and colleagues who are standing for the council are also validly nominated.

The process can be extraordinarily time-consuming and complex. There was a last minute dash up to one ward this lunchtime after a nominating signature turned out to belong to a voter who appeared on the register we had been given for parliamentary purposes but wasn't on the one we needed to use for local elections ...

Nevertheless we now believe we have Conservative candidates nominated to be MP for Copeland (Steven Haraldsen); for Mayor (myself) and in every ward in Copeland. Details of all candidates standing will be published later today.

Good luck to all candidates. Regardless of party or affiliation, standing in an election is your right, and I hope you all take from it everything you can (even if you don't win, you may well learn a lot from the experience)

I think it takes courage to stand in an election, and I support all that do so. (so much so i have even been to election counts showing moral support to freinds who were standing whilst wearing party rosettes, yeah i know me wearing a party rosette is odd, but its true), and it looks really good when its oinned to an Iron Maiden Tee shirt :o)

any way, where was I, oh yeah, GOOD LUCK TO ALL AGAIN.
