Merry Christmas

To everyone reading this who is a Christian, may the love and hope represented by the birth of the Christ Child be with you this Christmas.

To everyone reading this who has any faith, may your God be with you at this time.

Really - to everyone?

The message of Christmas is about peace on earth and goodwill to everyone, yes. If you start qualifying it with "except the people I don't like," you completely ruin that message.

It's all about the 'message' not what you really mean

Thank you Jim, and all the best to you and your partner too.

A message and what someone means to communicate by it are the same thing. There is no distinction between the two.

Sometimes people try to word a message in such a way as to communicate different understandings to different audiences - the so-called "dog whistle" technique - but if ever there was a message to which that does not apply it is the Christmas message of peace and goodwill.

And I hope you had a happy Christmas too.
