Strengthening the Online Safety Bill

The government has announced further strengthening of the current Online Safety Bill to bring the full weight of the law against those who use the internet as a weapon – making the UK the safest place in the world to be online.

  • The government is committed to making the UK the safest place in the world to be online – protecting the most vulnerable and ensuring there is no safe space for criminals to operate.
  • That is why the Online Safety Bill is being made stronger and more comprehensive, with a new list of online criminal content for tech firms to proactively remove as a priority, including revenge porn, hate crime, the promotion or facilitation of suicide, people smuggling and sexual exploitation.
  • This new law will protect people online and stamp out the most harmful illegal content quicker, allowing us to bring criminals to justice more effectively as we make the UK the safest place in the world to be online.
