E10 fuel

The government announced today that a new, greener fuel will be introduced at petrol stations across the UK later this year, helping to cut Britain's carbon emissions and secure jobs as we build back better and greener.

  • If Britain is to meet our world leading commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050, then we need to accelerate our efforts to cut emissions from our roads and move towards a greener transport system.
     
  • Hence the introduction of E10 fuel – an eco-friendly blend of petrol and ethanol – in September later this year, which could cut UK carbon emissions by 750,000 tonnes a year – the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road, while boosting job opportunities in places like the north east, where much of our bioethanol is produced.
     
  • This small switch will help drivers across the country reduce the environmental impact of their journeys, helping us to build back greener from the pandemic.

Its good to see things being put in place for legacy vehicles. Still does not answer the question why are new builds like the travelodge in Workington (not an isolated case thanks to international ev facebook groups) why are they being built and obtaining planning permission with no destination chargers, not just destination no ev charging at all. How is that joined up thinking.

Whydoes a battery for a home solar installation attract VAT at 20% but fossil fuels attract it at 5%?

Its all good announcing cleaner fuels for legacy vehicles as aninterim measure, but if there is Lees being done to accommodate the switch to EV then it's clearly a slap stick, un thought through policy from our incompetent government.

Good point, Jim. Planning authorities should encourage applicants to cover things like this.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
