Supporting the Arts

Today the Chancellor has announced that significant additional support for the arts and culture sectors will be delivered in the Budget – supporting these vital sectors so that they are ready to bounce back as we cautiously begin to ease lockdown restrictions.

  • Throughout this pandemic the government have delivered significant support to our world-renowned arts and cultural industries and now, as we see light at the end of the tunnel, we are going further to support this vital sector.

  • That is why it has been announced that more than £400 million in additional support will be handed to museums, theatres and galleries in England to ensure they can reopen once restrictions start to ease – building on the historic £1.5 billion package of support already delivered for the sector.

  • In addition, £150 million will be delivered via the Community Ownership Fund – helping to ensure that the pubs and sports clubs that are the heart and soul of our communities are not lost to those who treasure them most.

  • There is now light at the end of the tunnel and the support announced today, combined with Britain's record-breaking vaccine programme, will allow our beloved arts and culture sector to captivate audiences in the months and years to come.
