Using the power of Education to resist Climate Change

The government has announced a package of measures that will put the fight against climate change at the heart of education, empowering young people to play a role in conserving and protecting our planet.

Education is one of the most important weapons we have in the fight against climate change, allowing us to raise awareness and understanding of the collective challenge we all face. So the government will introduce a series of measures that will put climate change at the heart of our education system including:

  • Supporting teachers in delivering a new model science curriculum by 2023, teaching children about nature and the impact of climate change
  • Establishing a virtual National Education Nature Park, allowing students to track their progress and increase their knowledge of local biodiversity.
  • Launching a new Climate Leaders Award scheme to encourage young people to act against climate change by improving their local environment.
  • Training, and requiring, all further education teachers in integrating sustainability into their teaching.

By equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to help us build a more sustainable future, we will secure a better, greener and safer Britain for the next generation.
