Nick Herbert on his visit to flood hit areas of Cumbria
Please note that the post below was published more than ten year ago on 21st November 2009 Nick Herbert MP, shadow cabinet member for the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, was in Cumbria this morning to see the areas affected by the flooding. He writes on Conservative Home about his visit. Here is an extract. I’ve been in Cumbria today to see the areas affected by the floods. I arrived early in Keswick where I met officials from the Environment Agency. Although the river levels had fallen considerably and homes were no longer flooded, the damage to homes had been done. And the water which had got into houses wasn’t just from the river – it was foul water which had risen from the drains. I talked to fire crews who were pumping flood water back into the river, and discovered that they were from Tyne & Wear and Lancashire. They had been called in at an hours’ notice and had been working on the scene ever since, staying at a local hotel. You cannot fail to be impressed by the...

Funny that you should post this, because ever since Brandon Lewis made his "limited and specific way" speech I've had a version of this song going round in my head with the same start but a slightly different breach of international law described.
So here are the words to - wait for it - a parody of an original song by Weird Al Yankovic (Shome Mishtake shurely!)
"Don't ignore the law" (parody of "Don't download this song" by Wierd Al.
Once in a while maybe you will feel the urge
To break international law
In a limited, and specific way by passing an
Internal Market Bill to over-write your own deal
But deep in your heart you know the guilt would drive you mad
And the shame would leave a permanent scar
'Cause you told those "red wall" seats
at last year's election
You'd an oven-ready deal with which you would "Get Brexit done!"
So don't ignore the law,
That slam is Lord Keen rushing out the door
Implement your own deal like you know that you should
Oh, don't ignore the law.
You won't win the day, in court at the ECJ,
Where They'll sue you if you burn that WA
It doesn't matter what Dom tells you, 'bout your big majority
They'll treat you like the evil hard-bitten criminal scum you'll be,
So don't ignore the law
Don't give Keir such an open goal to score,
Implement your own deal, you told voters you would,
Oh, don't ignore the law
Don't take power and money from some hard-up MEP
How else can they afford another sixty inch TV?
Wine lakes and butter mountains,
These things don't grow on trees
So the EU's begging "Everybody, please..."
Don't ignore the law (Don't do it, no, no)
Even Michael Howard knows it's wrong (You can just ask him)
Implement your own deal like you promised you would (You really should)
Oh, don't ignore the law
Don't ignore the law (Please, don't do it, or you)
Might go to jail like Tommy Robinson (Remember Tommy?)
Implement your own deal like you know that you should,
Oh, don't ignore the law
Don't ignore the law (No, no, no, no, no, no)
You'll make Blair and Major very sore (and May, Brown and Cameron!)
Implement your own deal like you promised you would,
Oh, don't ignore the law"
That must have taken you ages to write.
I wonder if there is anyone who would perform it - to find a Youtube parody of a Weird Al original song would be something else..
