John Rentoul's four questions for the SNP

As the SNP gear up for yet another attempt to demand a new Scottish Independence referendum, John Rentoul, chief political columnist of the Indepenent, asks them four highly pertinent questions:

1) How will you pay for Scotland’s increased deficit?

In the short term there will be a hole in Scotland’s public finances that is currently filled by the UK’s rules for sharing tax revenue

2) Are you happy to have a currency controlled by a foreign country?

You could have the euro, in which Scotland would have as much say as Slovakia, or you could have your own currency, but no, you propose to use the currency of the big colonial oppressor

3) On what terms would you join the EU?

You would have to sign up for the euro and the fish

4) Once the terms of separation have been agreed (or not), should there be a “confirmatory public vote”?

The SNP voted for a second Brexit referendum in 2019

I suspect John won't be holding his breath while he waits for an answer to any of those questions.
